From cyberman@mindspring.com: This question is for Steve: Steve, for many years I have been wanting to see an interview in one of the guitar mags between you & Brad Gillis of Night Ranger. The reason is, is because the both of you are basically THE KINGS of the wang bar when it comes to using it creatively. I'd like to see ya'll get together to discuss the different techniques that each of you use, among other things. Is there any chance that you could talk to one of the guitar mags & arrange such an interview if both of ya'll's want toschedules would allow? Thanks! Steve and Joe Says: We thought of it, but we didn't want to give tha audience a wang ball hernia. It is possible, but you should direct that question toward the magazine. From nancy@efn.org: In _your_ words, what do you feel is special, important, or desirable about live performance (vs studio work)? Joe Says: Well live performance are immediate, spontaneous and your audience is right there. Steve says: Live performances are more organic in a sense and it's in the moment. From Domid@hotmail.com: If you guys remember what song did you guys first learn to play on the guitar? Steve Says: Paranoid by Black Sabbath. Joe says: I think its something I wrote. From nancy@efn.org: Do you ever get bored playing the same songs on tour every set -- is there a trick to keeping it fresh? Joe Says: I really like it because it gives you an opportunity to explore. It's more fulfilling to play it over and over again. Steve says: I haven't gotten bored yet. From Francisco Exp˘sito: exposito@cryogen.com: Dear Steve: I'd like to know the meterial (amp, guitar, etc) you used to play "Tender Surrender" from your "Alien Love Secrets Album". Thank you. Steve Says: That was a Bogner amp, going into 4-30 watt through a VHT power amp. And I used an Ibanez gem and a guitar I call EVO. I also used a BOSS DS1 and a cry baby wawa. There was some effects brought up on the consul, but basically that's what it was. From ayako@anet.ne.jp: Do you have plans to come to JAPAN with G3 tour? Japanese fans are all waiting for you! From nancy@efn.org: Joe, did you see "The Colors of Infinity" on PBS re the Mandelbrot set and fractal geometry (music by David Gilmore)? I think you should write a song about it! Joe Says: Okay. I generally write songs about the heart. But yeah, fractal geometry, I'll try that. From Roo: Is there an Australia G3 in the works? Steve and Joe Says: Yes, there is. From nancy@efn.org: Joe, why is "Mystical Potato Head..." your most difficult song to perform live? I tried many different manufacturers in the beginning but Ibanez delivered the guitar of my dreams and they work with the artist very well. About 30 minutes give or take 27 years. From TittySmack@rocketmail.com: To Steve and Joe: When do you think your next few albums are going to be out? Especially the Merry Axe-mas album that sounds so cool. It's a collection of 11 instrumental songs played by some of the greatest fuitar players in this generation (Kenny Wayne Shephard, Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Brian Setzer, Joe Satriani, Steve Morris, myself, Joe Perry, Alex Liceson, Richie Sambora, Hotei). Joe has a record coming out in Jan. called "Crystal Planet." From christianheilman@hotmail.com: Tell me about the Fripp moments happening at the beginning of the G3 dates. From christianheilman@hotmail.com: Are you guys using in-ear monitors, what do you do to help preserve your hearing (given the genre of music)? Joe Says: Well I use EAR 29DD rated foam plugs. Steve says: Ear plugs are for p*ssy's...I'm just joking. I just got back from a routine ear examine. My hearing is average for my age. I use cotton. From RobPRnRFan@aol.com: Joe why did you shave your head? I asked Steve in Dec @ Tommyknockers show he told me to ask you. Too many bad hair days? Joe Says: That's it... a life of bad hair days. When baldness and trends all come together in a wonderful moment, that's when you shave your head. From nancy@efn.org: Joe, for the enlightenment of the terminally curious and the eternally dense, could you pls explain why long comments on your web page are "inappropriate"? Joe Says: Well, the problem is with consequent downloading time for the next visitor, the longer the comments get the longer space it take up. Short questions are almost always answered. I will be on their tonight answering questions about the chat. From Zing@rpi.edu: Steve, I saw you in Rochester for the first time live (4th row, stage left). That was a phenomenal show. Do you plan on doing something like that again or releasing some of that stuff ("Vaibrations") on cd? Take care, you guys are BOTH great. Steve and Joe Says: That project is called "Sound Current" and it's the orchestration of pieces from my repetoire. On the G3 tour all my spare time will be on the back of the bus tweaking all the scores. The Rochester show was recorded buy I'm not particularly happy with it. I'm waiting to get all the bugs out. It was a real thrill to play with a 60-piece orchestra. From cpj2@worldnet.att.net: What is the two of yours opinion on Frank Marino? Do you have any idea what he is up to? Steve and Joe Says: Wow, long lost guitar master. Very under rated. I'd love to know what he's doing these days. From loboscofam@worldnet.att.net: Joe and Steve: Both of you guys are guitar heros! Here's my question- I'm a young female guitarist, I think I'm pretty good, but the band I'm in makes me feel cramped. They won't expand their style. They're good friends, but I can't wail like I want to :) Should I get out now or what? -Lisa Joe Says: My advice is play what you want to play. Steve syas: If you really like those people and you enjoy playing with them but don't fulfill you musically you can start something else. Maybe when they see how much fun you're having they'll come around...or fire you. From burazin@globalserve.net: I'm looking for software inorder to transcribe chords, give me good drum beats with heavy percus. and good recording capabilities. And if you may can you recommend a good sound card. Steve Says: I have these folios out on Hal Leonard that are the backing track for Passion and Warfare and also now I also handed in backing tracks for Alien Love Secrets and Fire Garden. They're really great to play to. They have nice chord changes and it comes with a booklet. It's a cd that you can just sick into your cd palyer. From joebarr@usit.net: what are the chances that Paul Gilbert might join the G3 at some point? Steve and Joe Says: Great idea...Joe says: I've been asking around to try in get in touch with him.. I heard he lives in Vegas and I plan on dragging him up on stage. From joe champoux@gte.com: Steve who played the guitar parts for ralph in the movie cross roads? Steve Says: Well Ry Cooder played the slide parts. Then I did all the other stuff. Joe Says: Check out www.satriani.com Love and kisses to all...and cotton candy.
